Crime on the rise across New Zealand
While we would all love to live in a world free of trouble, hurt, pain and crime, we must all realise that crime in our region will be committed. And depending on how bad it is someone will be incarcerated. But possibly not every crime should result in time behind bars. Today criminal behavior Is impacting on the voters in this region.
It is my belief that the New Zealand departments that make up the judicial system like health and education exhibit the same common failings;
Staff are overworked
Staff are under paid
Staff are under staffed
Staff are under resourced
Increased attention locally to organized crime bodies
Increasing Alcohol and drug issues
As a result of crime today in New Zealand an incarcerated person cost the taxpayer $191,463 per inmate per-annum costing a total of 1.76 billion per-annum. It is my firm belief that If the state was to spend more on these individuals when they were younger then maybe we would spend less on them to be incarcerated. So it is my preference that the government should seek to focus financially on youth and adolescent crime as much as they do on current and future incarceration costs. We could connect the figure spent on crime prevention could be proportionate to the 1.76 billion spent annually.
